James Dunlop - Operations Manager & Head of engineering

James has been at Darvall since 1999. Back then, a fresh faced high school student started working odd jobs for his Father’s business in order to earn some pocket money. Some 26 years later and now graduated from High School and University, James is an integral part of the backbone of the company in his capacity as both Head of Engineering and Operations Manager.

Given the dual nature of his role, James is uniquely positioned to undertake a diverse range of tasks on both the engineering and management sides of Darvall. He maintains excellent relationships with Darvall’s customers, assisting with a range of enquiries including vaporiser service and product enquiries.

The engineering component of James’ role tends to find him on the testing bench in the workshop, undertaking R & D and experimentation in pursuit of his favourite pastime: creating prototypes which will eventually become innovative products which are patented and unique to the company.

When he’s not working at Darvall, you’ll likely find James happily camping with his partner, spending time with his friends or playing music.

Minpu - Electrical Engineering / Research and Development

Minpu’s time at Darvall spans over 15 years. During this time he has provided invaluable contributions to the company, specialising in the fields of electrical engineering, research and development as well as the manufacture, repair, calibration and service of equipment.

Additionally, his role necessitates close collaboration and communication with key stakeholders of Darvall’s current R & D projects in order to ensure that project milestones and targets are able to be tracked and met. Minpu has a sharp eye for detail and is an integral member of the Darvall team thanks to his skills, experience and abilities in his areas of expertise.

Minpu has four children which does take up the majority of his spare time, however he still manages to squeeze in a game of soccer on the weekend.

Tim - Service Department Operations

Tim commenced his role at Darvall in 2008 working as a technician in the service room. His role now involves the operation of the service department. This is a diverse and challenging role that predominantly centers around the repair, maintenance and servicing of various vaporizers that are used for a range of veterinary surgical procedures across Australia.

Tim excels in problem solving, especially in relation to mechanical challenges which makes him a valuable and central part of the team at Darvall. When Tim isn’t at work, you might find him at the archery range sharpening his skills in his long time hobby.

Helen - Clinical Support & Customer Service

Helen commenced her role with Darvall in November of 2021. As a vital part of the team, Helen’s role requires a high acumen for organisation and communication. Her role includes handling and responding to enquiries both via phone and email from Darvall’s significant portfolio of clientele.

This necessitates ongoing communications with customers both domestic and abroad in the United States. Helen is an integral part of Darvall’s team and stands out for her friendly and collaborative approach to her role, this in turn, assists our customers to achieve the best highest standard of service.

In her time outside of her role, she enjoys dining out with friends and completing various projects around the home.

Peter - Senior Vaporiser & Anaesthesia Technician

Without a doubt the most senior member of the team, Peter met Colin in the very early days of AAS and became a permanent part time staff member after he decided he was too young to retire.

Peter's first ventilator repair was in 1963, when as a boy of 17 he greased the chain of an east Radcliff ventilator to stop it from squeaking and keeping patients awake in the ICU at Sydney Hospital. From there his career path led him through a multitude of technical areas to achieve the classification of Master Field Engineer during his more than 30 years with 3M Australia. Although his training included EO sterilisers, Sarnes heart/lung machines, all areas of microfilm production and printing, his most prized designation was that of national service trainer for “Bird” products. Meeting the late Forrest Bird, legendary developer of Bird pressure ventilators, stands as a high watermark of his career. These Bird ventilators played a significant role in reducing the rate of breathing related infant mortality from 70% to 10% and these ventilators are still in use around the world.

Peter’s busy, intersecting and productive life continues as his valuable insights and experience help Darvall push the leading edge of anaesthesia technology.

Marion - Procurement & Inventory Management

Marion has been fulfilling a critical role at Darvall for the last four years in managing the procurement of goods with Darvall’s Australian suppliers. In addition, Marion also oversees vital inventory management functions across the business -  a sizeable task given the considerable quantity of parts, goods and supplies that are required to complete an assembly for even a single vaporiser.

Marion enjoys the friendly and cohesive environment fostered by her colleagues and the dynamic nature of her role which sees her solving various logistical and technical challenges that occur within any given day in order to deliver the best possible outcomes and experiences for Darvall’s customers.

When not in the office, Marion enjoys spending time outdoors in nature with family and friends.

Andy - Vaporiser Service Technician

Andy commenced his role at Darvall two years ago. His role is a complex one and involves a high aptitude for analytical thought and problem solving. The day to day functions of his role consist of taking apart, cleaning and calibrating vaporisers. This also necessitates a thorough assessment of each component of the vaporiser to ensure that they are in optimal working condition.

Andy is a collaborative minded team player who thrives in a like minded problem solving environment which makes him a perfect fit for his role. He enjoys the challenges of understanding what makes a vaporiser perform correctly and he takes particular pride and enjoyment in the challenges of finding a way to ensure each vaporiser that lands on his desk passes the complex and detailed calibration requirements that must be met before use in surgery.

When not at work, Andy enjoys creating music, fishing and watching movies.

Jenny - Clinical Support & Customer Service

Having worked at Darvall for nearly 20 years, Jenny is responsible for liaising with international suppliers and customers to source quality products and materials, review pricing and ensure optimal value for the business.  Much of her role involves working closely with overseas distributors or customers to understand their requirements and guarantee timely delivery of products,

Jenny finds particular fulfillment in the knowledge that her efforts contribute to the satisfaction of Darvall’s customers and the company’s success. In her free time, Jenny enjoys keeping fit and unwinding by watching a good movie—both of which help her stay energised and focused.

Cooper - Vaporiser Service Technician

Cooper commenced his role at Darvall in 2020, initially working as a freight technician. He has since migrated into the role of a vaporiser service technician. As such, his time is predominantly occupied with the assembly of Darvall’s new DVM vaporisers. With a keen eye for detail, Cooper’s daily tasks include the adjustment of thermostats on a water manometer in order to generate appropriate and reliable data for calibration purposes.

Cooper particularly enjoys the sense of reward that comes with fixing a faulty vaporizer as well as the gratification of providing a thorough clean and service to equipment that comes his way. He is proud to support his colleagues and exemplifies the high performance culture Darvall is known for.

Cooper is an avid musician, songwriter and guitarist and enjoys golf and the occasional video game in his spare time.

Alan - Freight Clerk

Alan joined Darvall a little over a year ago and is responsible for the freight related functions of the business. This is a critical component for any business and requires a high aptitude for organisational skills in terms of management of warehousing space, safety in storage practices and best practices for efficiency. Additionally, Alan has the responsibility of ensuring all incoming goods are logged correctly and accurately.

Alan shares the collaborative mindset of his colleagues and relishes the opportunity to tackle challenges with a smile in his efforts to contribute to the high performance culture that Darvall is known for both in Australia and abroad.
